Zuni Elk Antler Dancing Bear Fetish

The bear represents inner strength and wisdom. These elk antler dancing bears are carved by renowned Zuni artisan Claudia Peina and enhanced with turquoise and coral dot belts.

A Zuni fetish is a carving believed to contain the powers of the animal carving and were central to Zuni culture and their religion prior to the Spanish invasion.  Most always these were animals of prey, as the most powerful providers in life.  Individually carved in semi-precious stones, many are enhanced with medicine bundles, arrows for protection or other adornments to enhance their power.
